Doctoral training programme

The composition of the consortium, consisting of

6 academic and 4 non-academic partners

located in 7 European countries, allows for an inspiring combination of basic and applied research.

12 doctoral students involved in the training network will use state-of-the-art technologies and the unique multidisciplinary expertise of all partners to answer their challenging research questions.

We aim to create an interdisciplinary, international, and intersectoral training network that will provide the next generation of myopia researchers with optimal training in epidemiology, molecular biology, physiology, biochemistry, advanced genomics, bioinformatics, and anatomy. We will train 12 doctoral students to become excellent interdisciplinary research scientists with in-depth knowledge of innovation in academic, industrial, and non-profit organizations. The doctoral candidates will thus acquire knowledge from different perspectives: technical, commercial, and societal. This will be achieved by (1) Designing and performing interdisciplinary and intersectoral research, as well as awareness about ethical consequences, patenting and legislation issues, problem-solving, and working in teams; (2) Development of research networks; (3) Proficiency in technical, commercial, societal, and transferable soft skills, equipping them for post-doctoral careers in academia, industry or the private sector; (4) Dissemination, including the writing of high-quality scientific papers, giving excellent oral and poster presentations, and grant writing.
